Alessi has somehow managed to make something as banal as a citrus squeezer controversial. The industrial design was done by world-renowned designer Philippe Starck. 30 years later, it is still one of Alessi’s most commercially successful products. The juicy salif is probably the greatest present-day example of style over substance. As a juicer, its utility is average, at best. As a conversation piece, it is perfect. As a result, the object has become a design icon.
