💬 To Whom Zakat can be given? Also, what is the difference between Zakat & Sadaqah?

💵 After Salah, Zakat is the most important obligatory worship in Islam.

♻️ The system of Zakat has been established on the basis of verse 60 of Surah At-Tawbah, in which Allah ﷻ Himself has mentioned the categories on which Zakat should be spent.

“The Sadaqat (Prescribed Alms) are only for the: poor, the needy, those employed to collect these, those whose hearts are to be won, in (freeing) slaves, in (releasing) those in debt, in the way of Allah and for a wayfarer - this being prescribed by Allah. And Allah is Knowing, Wise."
✨[At-Tawbah|60]

1️⃣ The poor
2️⃣ The needy
3️⃣ Those employed to collect Zakat
4️⃣ For winning the hearts of those (who incline towards accepting Islam)
5️⃣ For freeing slaves
6️⃣ To help in clearing debts
7️⃣ For Allah’s cause
8️⃣ For the traveller

⁉️ What does the word “الصَّدَقَاتُ” mean in this ayah (verse)?

✌🏻In Sharee’ah, the word “Sadaqat” can be interpreted in two ways:

🔹Nafli Sadaqah (voluntary charity):
Helping a needy, poor or distressed person anytime comes under “Nafli Sadaqah”. It is also called “Khairaat”.

🔹 Sadaqah Fareedah (Prescribed Alms):
The sadaqat that have been made obligatory for us to spend are called “Sadaqah Fareedah” or “Zakat”.

📝 Please note:
In Sharee’ah, for the obligatory worship “Zakat”, two words have been used:
➡️ Zakat
➡️ Sadaqat

✅ Towards the end of this verse, Allahﷻ has declared “Zakat” as an obligatory duty by using the words “فَرِيضَةً مِنَ اللَّهِ”.

‼️This clearly shows that the “sadaqat” mentioned here are not “voluntary charity”; Rather, it is the obligatory duty “Zakat”.
