hi my name is David P Shapiro I'm the owner and managing partner of the law office of David P Shapiro located in San Diego California where my firm helps good people regain control their future when charged with a crime this video I want to talk about some things you need to know really need to know as it relates to juvenile crimes in San Diego particularly if you or your son or your daughter find themselves in juvenile court accused of committing a crime or a series of crimes well the first thing is the difference between juvenile court and adult Court geographically they're not the same in reality or practicality they're not the same either okay geographically you're going to be out at a place called Meadowlark it's off the 163 just north of the eight in San Diego so Central San Diego no matter where the alleged defense is accused of taking place you're going to be in that location you're not going to be in any of the adult courts absent very very unique circumstances and very very serious crimes but at the very least you're always going to start in Mellark in juvenile court now the juvenile Court's not open to the public in the sense that once the case gets called The Miner and his or her parents will be brought into court they'll be the district attorney the defense attorney for the minor a representative from juvenile probation a court reporter who's taken everything down a judge a bailiff so a deputy sheriff from the San Diego Sheriff's department and the judge's staff most notably the clerk of court who works for the judge and helps make the courtroom run smoothly other than that it'll be you as the minor or you is the parents of the minor in the courtroom in each case each hearing is different you know it has different terminology than adult Court it has different end objectives than adult court and it is important to make sure that if you as a parent are going to go out and invest your hard-earned dollar in a criminal defense attorney or criminal defense law firm that you know that you're hiring a firm with experience actual experience in juvenile court that actually has some cases in juvenile court that actually has some success in different stages of a juvenile case similar to what you as the minor or as your as a parent what your kids case is about right and you're going to be before five or six different judges really there's not a whole lot of flexibility of what other judges you'd be there's about seven or eight judges at Meadowlark not all of them are doing juvenile delinquency some are doing dependency related but not really to criminal law in many instances so you'll kind of have an idea which judges are there some of those judges have been out there for a very long time others not so much but you want to make sure in order to protect your child's freedom in order to protect your child's future not just now as a reminder as they get older and in many instances for the rest of their life depending on the seriousness that a charge they're facing now that you invest in your future with the right Law Firm at the right time the firm that has the experience that has a reputation and and admittedly you know we believe we know that we are one of the very small handful a very small handful of firms in San Diego who exclusively practice criminal defense who represent clients day in day out at a high level whether you're an adult court or in juvenile court we're just one phone call away 619-295-3555
