In this video, I show you how to draw a simple forest scene using charcoal.

You will need these items to create this:

- A sturdy paper with a rough texture. I used mixed media paper.
- medium and soft compressed charcoal. (Charcoal pencils can work as well)
- Paper stumps, tissues, a small paint brush, or your fingers (my favorite tool) to blend the charcoal.
- An eraser for blending and adding highlights.
- Optional: Painter's tape to secure your paper, a smooth surface to work on. (In this example, I used the back of a picture frame) It also helps to have a damp rag to clean your hands and work surface.

This drawing is perfect for beginners because it still looks great even if some of the shapes do not look like the real thing. It will look a bit messy up close. When you view the drawing from a few feet away it will look very expressive and dramatic.
