30 years ago, Mercedes-Benz India began their operations with the W124 E-Class. The W124 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is known for its legendary build quality, and it's evident in the condition most of these 124s are even today. The W124 E-Class brought in many firsts in India - the first car to have dual airbags, the first car to have all four discs, the first car to have seatbelt pre-tensioners and many more. But all of that came at a price -- ₹22 lakh including options. To put it in perspective, the Maruti 800 was then priced around ₹2.5 lakh. The W124 was one of the most luxurious cars available in India. It was sold with several engine options, and its ride quality was impeccable. Still is by today's standards. Editor Sirish Chandran takes us through the history of Mercedes Benz India, and explains why the W124 is the best car in the world, in this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten.
