In February 2011 Libya took a turn for the worse other Arab countries like Tunisia Egypt and Yemen in previous months experienced political turmoil.
The Western media quickly labeled these events the Arab spring... they took it for granted that it was a kind of revolution against repression and dictatorships.
In Libya the situation was initially the same, but the reasons that led the country to civil war were quite different, in 2011 Libya had a very different political situation from Tunisia and Egypt, although governed by Muammar Gaddafi an authoritarian leader and highly questionable.
Libya's population of just six million people enjoyed a decent standard of living better than one could imagine, even better than Yemen or Lebanon, the oil and gas industry absorbed most of the skilled workforce and of the people, allowing the nation to enjoy most of the profits.
