This song is a humble tribute to the legend Kishore Kumar.

Remembering the master, the legend, the one and only...maestro who made each of his songs stand out for its sheer brilliance of Kishore da’s way of singing.

As with all legends, though they may be long gone, we are left with their legacy – to enjoy and to remember them with. Kishore Kumar is no different – his legacy is extremely rich, and he has millions of fans around the world who enjoy his songs every single day. He lives through his songs.

I have been extremely fond of Kishoreda’s pre-1970s and 1960’s songs, although he was not the numero uno male playback singer of the time. His songs from this period though are an absolute delight to listen to.

Even till today, Kishore da songs transcends all emotions a human life can experience…sadness, pathos, grief, melancholic apart from his happy, romantic songs which continue to enthrall a music fan like many in our country. Kishore da used to extend a unique touch to his songs with his understanding of every song and every stanza / phrase / word which got the distinctive treatment of his tonality and pitch resulting in a memorable song where the listener is transported into a different orbit while listening to the song.

This particular song which I have sung as a tribute to Kishore da is from the movie Harjai, a 1981 movie where the music is composed by Panchamda, his favourite music director. It is a sad, sensitive song picturized on Randhir Kapoor, as he reflects on his changed life, and wants to hold on to all that is precious to him.

The lyrics of this song are written by the famous poet, Nida Fazli Sahab who also wrote some memorable songs for this movie, which were sung by Lataji (Tere Liye Palkon Ki Jhaalar Bunoon).

The song is sung by Kishore Kumar (Kishoreda) and the song has a magical reverberant effect on the listeners with Kishore Kumar’s voice full of pain and pathos on the listener’s mind and ears.

Pancham da always said that though Kishore da was an untrained singer like many other playback singers, he was like a reservoir of talent, who could improvise any song incredibly and he would provide vocal insights and expression beyond the composer’s imagination.
