Inside the World’s Largest Aircraft Carrier
They don’t call the USS Gerald Ford the world’s largest aircraft carrier for nothing. In fact, it’s hard to fathom just how long the vessel is. The vessel is longer than three American football fields and, at 250 feet high, the USS Gerald R. Ford is large enough to tower over the largest buildings in some small towns. Fun fact: it would take Usain Bolt all of 35 seconds to run the length of its 332 meters or 1000 ft frame. For a 1200BHP Bugatti Veyron, it would take nine seconds to cover the same distance. Named after the 38th President of the United States, the USS Gerald Ford is the pride of the US navy.

It is all set to replace the Nimitz
The USS Gerald R. Ford took the work of more than 5,000 people to complete. It’s projected to be in use for 50 years and will replace the Nimitz Class to become the leading carrier for the US Navy. When the USS Gerald R Ford is finally deployed, it will reduce the response time for any military operation. It will also be able to launch 33 more aircraft than older carriers, which also means more bombs at its disposal to take out a target.

Sophisticated defense systems
As for its defense features, the USS Gerald R Ford will be fitted with the latest RIM-162 evolved Sea Sparrow missiles. These missiles will be used to protect the ship from a variety of attacks. The ESSM system counters supersonic maneuvering anti-ship missiles that can also be quad-packed into the Mark 41 Vertical Launch System, allowing up to four ESSMs to be carried in a single cell. The Navy is also developing a free-electron laser (FEL) to defend against cruise missiles and small-boat swarms. It will also have RAM weapons that are lightweight and easily moved around the ship.

A symbol of force and power
U.S. aircraft carriers are an important part of the naval fleet, and they have a reputation heightened by their awesome striking power. Their mere presence is enough to discourage enemies from taking any action against the U.S. or her allies.
