How to change the oil in a Honda Fit. This particular model is a 2015 equipped with the 1.5L 4 cylinder engine. If you are using synthetic, Honda recommends to oil to be changed every 12,000km or 7,500 miles. #honda #hondafit #automaintenance

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-17mm socket with ratchet
-new oil
-oil pan
-new oil filter
-clean rags
-funnel

Procedure:
It’s good to have the engine warmed up so the oil flows better when draining. Elevate the front of the vehicle on ramps. Have a drain pan handy.

Using a 17 mm socket with a 3/8 drive ratchet, loosen the drain plug on the oil pan. To make it easy, Honda has put on a label in the shape of an arrow where the drain plug is located.

Remove the drain plug and let the oil drain into a pan. This will take a few minutes.

Inspect the gasket around the oil drain plug, and make sure it is in good condition. If damaged, replace. Before installation, clean the sealing surfaces on the drain pan and plug, ensuring no dirt may cause sealing issues.

Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it to 30-foot pounds or 41 newton meters.

Now for the oil filter. This is located directly at the front of the engine. This one was excessively tight so I needed extra tools to help assist in loosening. If you have the right size strap wrench, that can be used. A filter socket is also available. Or you can use large interlocking pliers. When loosening the oil filter, the oil will dump out so have the drain pan handy.

Remove the oil filter and dumped the remaining oil in the oil pan.

Compare the old and new filters ensuring they are the same. Make sure that the gasket surface matches up. Apply clean oil to the gasket on the new filter.

Clean the gasket mounting surface and wipe away any oil residue on the engine.

Then install the filter. Tighten the filter to…

Finally is filling the engine with oil. A funnel is required here, the oil fill cap is located on the passenger side just under the windshield cowl.

The oil required for this engine is 0W 20, 3.3 liters or 3.5 quarts is needed.

Check the dipstick as needed, and make sure the oil level is between the minimum and maximum lines.

Start the engine and then recheck the oil on level ground. I typically like to be closer to the maximum line.

After that, the oil will need to be disposed of accordingly. The oil change indicator on the gauge cluster needs to be reset. This is done by turning the key in the on position, pressing and holding the button below the speedometer for 10 seconds, releasing, the indicator will flash, then pressing and hold it again for five seconds.
