Weekly Economic Outlook: Labour's problems, the Republicans' disarray, Yellen's backtracking on inflation - and Bill and Melinda's break-up.

Why you should watch: Labour's disarray in the UK has eerie similarities to the Republicans' disarray in the US - and both give the ruling Party a far freer hand than is healthy. But that's only part of the story. Last Friday's US jobs data has upended the narrative about endless growth - but it hasn't completely eased fears about a surge in inflation. Indeed, it may turn out to have been a one-off, a rogue month. In other news, the EU is finally close to raising money for its recovery fund, there have been important developments on the sustainability side - and the Gates's divorce threatens one of the better development institutions, the Gates Foundation.

In his Weekly Economic Outlook, Andrew Hilton, the CSFI’s Director, discusses the current crisis, its impact on the global economy, and what we may be missing.

Andrew is a former World Bank economist, who also ran a small economic consultancy advising international clients, particularly in the Middle East. He has an MA from New College, Oxford, an MBA from Wharton, and an MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Thouron Scholar and Kent Fellow.
