India delivered first batch of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines on April 19, two years after signing a $375 million deal. Indian Air Force transported missiles and launchers to the Philippines via military transport aircraft. BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, an India-Russian joint venture, produces supersonic cruise missiles. BrahMos missiles can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms. BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach, nearly three times the speed of sound. India seeks to expand defence ties with the Philippines amid concerns over China's military assertiveness in the South China Sea. China's claims of sovereignty in the South China Sea have raised concerns globally. Multiple countries, including Vietnam, the Philippines, and Brunei, have disputed China's claims. Interest from other countries, like Argentina, in procuring BrahMos missiles from India highlights its strategic importance.
