Looking through some very old racing tapes, found some interesting stuff, including this 1995 interview with one of my favorite drivers of the 90s, Johnny Rumley. Who's Johnny Rumley, you say? A driver I think could have been a star up in WInston Cup if he had been given a fair opportunity. Seems he was too "country" or even "redneck" for a NASCAR turning its back on its roots. Rumley looked a little bit like Dale Earnhardt, and he drove a style that combined aggressiveness with smarts, getting as much out of his car with out pushing it past its limits. In a very brief career at NASCAR's highest levels, he won a couple of races, including one at Dover, always one of the toughest tracks on the circuit, with a struggling low budget team, but was never given a fair chance to advance and soon disappeared. But we old-time racing fans remember. At least I do.
