Canadian Intelligence Services were the least aggressive, the least adventurous - they didnt really push the legal boundaries. It was difficult to target Canadians for surveillance. The broader challenge is how do we teach children about this. This is difficult because we are inheriting a culture of 1,000s years civilization by saying God or The Secret Police or Your Parents who knows what it is you are doing & so you shouldnt do anything bad. Through technology we saw an explosion of liberal democracy. Intelligence services are not really protecting the public they are protecting the State. They ask what can we do not what should we do? NSA then built system that watches people all the time everything they do & then files it away. If its not InHuman then it is UnAmerican! Its not a Free Country anymore! When our values have begun to fall out of favor in terms of the way they are communicated we need to think very hard about are we losing them & if we are how can we revisit them.
