I had been thinking over this design for a while now. I wanted to make a dust separator that didn't have a hose or pipe connecting it to the shop vac, and I wanted it to be a single unit to make it easy to move around and take up less space.

I watched a lot of other people's take on dust separators but the 2 that really helped me with this design were Cosmas Bauer and Matthias Wandel.

This was the simplest solution I could think of and the cheapest, buying only the bucket and using scrap plywood for the rest. I am very happy with how it turned out. It works great and its not overly bulky or fiddly with hoses or wooden frames going everywhere. And it just so happened that the base of the bin fits inside the wheels of my Ryobi shop vac!
