Charlie Donnelly prevailed in miserable conditions on the roads around Oldcastle to win the 1998 Castle Stage Rally in his Toyota Celica. The short, sharp event which ran in a single stage format attracted a capacity entry including a one off drive from the legendary Connie Smith who was reunited with his famous black Ford Escort for the rally while a young Rory Galligan impressed in his Peugeot 205.
