In this depreciation and buying guide of the Porsche Cayman 981 and 718, I will show you how much the values changed in the last year and how much the cars depreciate per 1000 miles. Moreover, I will show you how these numbers differ between the base, S, and GTS model. All in all this shows how much the values changed after the introduction of the 718 4.0 GTS.

The Porsche Cayman 718 is often critiqued for it’s four cylinder engine. It simply can’t give the sound and driver involvement which the 981 gave. As a result, 718 Caymans depreciate rather quickly. Contrary to this, 981 values were holding up pretty good as they used everyone though that this was the last cayman with a six cylinder. Yet, Porsche thought otherwise and gave us the 718 4.0 GTS. This means that the cayman 981 is no longer the last cayman with a naturally aspirated engine. In this video I will show you what this means for the values.

First, we will have a look at the current cayman market to figure out how the 718 and 981 relate to each other, including the differences between the models. This reveals that the 981 GTS is still priced quite high as prices are on par with the 718 GTS. After this, I will show you how much the prices changed since the introduction of the 718 4.0 GTS. Interestingly, prices for the base and S model went up the most. Prices for the GTS also increased, but too a lesser extent. The price increase of the 718 GTS market can even be questioned as it is not statistically confirmed. The increase in the 981 GTS is in line with other sports and super car. Hence, there might be an affect of the 718 4.0 GTS introduction on the 981 GTS prices, but not a large one.
