Lymphatic System and Lymph flow:
The fluid left in the interstitium after capillary reabsorption is drained by lymphatics. It helps maintain interstitial fluid volume and pressure within normal limits. The overlapping of adjacent endothelial cells in terminal lymphatic capillary creates a one-way valve that only allows entry of the fluid, But not the back-flow. Secondary valves and various pumping activity guides the lymph in the forward direction. The lymph joins the blood in veins. The lymphatic system also helps clean bacteria, holds tissues together by negative pressure, and plays an important role in draining fat from the intestine.
