It usually happens in the blink of an eye: you run into a major pothole with your car or crossover, and hear an alarming CLUNK from beneath the vehicle that causes you to apologize out loud to your car.

A moment later, a tire pressure warning in the instrument cluster confirms the worst: you’ve just suffered a tire failure, caused by a pothole strike.

Now you’ll have to pull over, stop your trip, assess the damage, and install the spare tire to carry on. You’ll need a new tire, and maybe a new rim and some suspension repair, too.

In a fraction of a second, potholes can cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars, hours of hassle, and spell the end of your road trip.

Recently, Nokian Tyres announced a promising solution to help protect drivers from this sort of setback.
