In this video, Jenny checks out the 2021 update for the Mazda CX-9. The CX9 is one of the most popular models in its class, so every update has to bring something good to keep it at the top. This current model is almost 5 years old now, so it was due for a revamp. Lastly, Mazda made some pretty big steps in the past few years, so we were wondering how many of those went into this facelift.

The CX-9 has always represented a great value for money, and ticks all the main style, practicality, and comfort boxes for a very specific niche of buyers and all that for a more than reasonable amount.

The model Jenny checks out in her review is the entry level 2021 Mazda CX9 Sport in FWD. It’s the base model trim and not something car enthusiasts would typically choose, but we thought we should answer the questions the buyers would like to know.

There are six trims to choose from so there is a lot to lose in the entry-level. But there is only one powertrain available. It’s a 2.5 I4 Skyactiv-G turbo petrol that gives 170 kW of power and 420 Nm from 2000 revs. Official fuel consumption is at 8.4 L for the FWD version and about 9 L for the AWD. It is mated to a 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic.

Driveaway pricing for this entry sport trim with FWD starts at $48k and if you want the top trim AZAMI in AWD you are looking at about $78k. You’ll have to go up the ladder and to a higher price point. But in terms of all the main features, even the entry-level has you covered. It is no wonder the CX-9 is so popular in Australia.
