I Review a Ford F150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost V6 Twin turbo charged engine as a Heavy Duty Mechanic and explain the differences between the first gen 2.7L engine the newer second generation 2.7L ecoboost engine. I explained the issues and problems the older first generation engine faced. I also discuss the upgrades on the 2.7L ecoboost engine ford provides in 2018. Finally, I give my professional opinion on which Engine you should buy.

I hope everyone is having great holidays. Today I am discussing the notible differences on the first and second gen engines on the 2.7L ecoboost engines. the first gen engine was offered from 2015 to 2017 and the second gen engines are the current engines being offered in new truck since 2018

the first major difference is the power output. the second gen ecoboost is putting out 400lb-ft of torque vs 375 in the first gen. along the power output in 2018 the 10 speed transmission is now the standard option behind this engine

ford also revised the timing chain going from a single timing chain to a dual timing chain set up on the second generation ecoboost engines.

ford also added port injection in addition to their direct injection on the second gen engines to eliminate the carbon build up issues on the intake.

ford added a new oil pan and oil pan gasket to help with the very well known oil leaks on the first gen ecoboost engines.

the biggest upgrade that I don't like is the addition of the variable displacement oil pump on the second gen 2.7L ecoboost engines. I would much rather have a good fixed displacement pump.
