Today we’ll learn how to buy and sell stock pre-market and after-hours within interactive brokers. These are time periods before and after the stock exchanges open and close, and this time period really depends on your individual broker.

For interactive brokers, it these hours will depend on whether you have a lite or pro account with them. With a pro account the premarket hours begin at 4am eastern time and the after hours goes until 8pm eastern time. With a lite account those hours will be from 7am - 8pm.

So between those hours, you can buy and sell stock just like normal, but theres a couple things you need to do to make that order work correctly. First off, you have to use a limit order and second, you have to identify you want the order active outside the regular trading hours.
