#Fidgets can be a wonderful learning tool to help students with self-regulation. With the increasing popularity of #spinners , it is more important than ever to understand the whys and hows of using #fidgets. This video teaches students some basic guidelines for using #fidgets as tools not toys.
#Fidgets help students focus on the teacher and the lesson. If students have a strong need to move, it can be nearly impossible for them to sit still and listen at the same time. A #fidget provides students with sensory input which can often be just enough to help them be able to focus their attention. Some children will spend all their energy and attention trying to sit still and have no energy left for thinking or learning.
#Fidgets without guidelines can be distracting and annoying to the whole class (including the teacher). These guidelines can help you and your students agree to using #fidgets as learning tools, not toys.

P.S. I was inspired to make this video after I was accidently hit in the back of the head by a flying #fidget. I realized I had talked with my students about why we use #fidgets but not how. Many thanks to my fellow educators who shared their thoughts and ideas about #fidget guidelines.
