US Army featurette on the experimental AH-56 Cheyenne attack helicopter. Lockheed developed the AH-56 as a high-speed armed escort for Airmobile transport helicopters like the UH-1 "Huey"

The Cheyenne took its maiden flight in September 1967. However, technical problems and a fatal crash led to the project's cancellation in May 1969. The Army continued using the AH-1 Cobra until development of the Hughes AH-64 Apache.
