5:21 - It’s meant to say: ‘many of the salaf considered al-Hajjaj to be a disbeliever.’

Something I noticed about Bro Hajji whilst going through his videos with a fine tooth comb is that half of his video is just fruitless chit chat, insults and comedy without actually getting to the point. His video was about 38 minutes, but only half of it was actually relevant to his argument.

0:01 - Introduction
1) 0:26 - Anas Ibn Malik: First ‘evidence’
2) 3:15 - Anas Ibn Malik: Second ‘evidence’
3) 5:35 - The repentance of Muslim Ibn Yasar
4) 13:14 - Bro Hajji destroys his own argument
5) 16:23 - The Shafi’i position on rebellion

The consensus on rebellion according to the early Shafi’iyya:

Abu Uthman al-Sabuni (373-449H) said:

“The People of Hadeeth hold that Jumu'ah, 'Eed, and other prayers are offered behind the Muslim leader, be he pious or wicked. They also hold that military service under them is also required, even if they were [personally] wicked and transgressive. They hold that supplications are made in their favor, for their rectification, success, and righteousness. They do not allow armed rebellion against the leaders, even if they witness injustices and transgressions from them.”

(Aqeedat al-Salaf Wa Ashab al-Hadith p. 294)

Ismail Ibn Yahya al-Muzani (175-264H) said:

“And obedience to the ruler in whatever is pleasing to Allah and And remaining far away from whatever is displeasing to Him. And abandoning revolt in response to their hostility and oppression. And repenting to Allah in order that they become inclined towards their subjects.”

“And the Friday Prayer must not be abandoned and praying it behind the righteous and sinful person of this Ummah is binding, as long as he is free from innovation. So if he innovates misguidance, then there is no Prayer behind him.' And Jihad and the Hajj (pilgrimage) must be performed along with every leader, regardless of whether he is just or oppressive.”

“The early Imāms of guidance from the past have a consensus (ijmā) upon these statements and deeds. And with guidance from Allāh, the tābi'un held onto them and took them as examples to be followed and were pleased with them. And they stayed far away from whatever exceeded these statements. So they remained upon the correct path with the help of Allāh and were successful. They did not turn away from al-ittiba' (following), such that they fell short. And they did not go beyond these statements, such that they became extreme and exceeded the bounds.”

(Sharh al-Sunnah p. 84, 87-88)

Abu Bakr Ibn al-Mundhir (241-318H) said:

Ibn al-Mundhir says that a person can defend himself, wealth and family without restriction, except for the ruler. As the Ahlul Hadith are in agreement that he can’t do khuruj against the ruler in this scenario, as the evidences coming from the messenger ﷺ command patience with the ruler and his oppression.
