Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) is a type of detonation that can destroy direct injection engines, especially turbocharged DI engines. I this video, Lake Speed Jr explains 3 ways to prevent LSPI from destroying your engine.

Step 1 is using the correct type of oil. API SPI spec motor oils are formulated and tested to prevent LSPI.

Step 2 is keeping your fuel injectors clean. A Poly Ether Amine based fuel additive works the best at cleaning fuel injectors in Direct Injection engines.

Step 3 is letting your engine warm up before driving. LSPI occurs more frequently at low engine temperatures when the Moto oil is thicker. As the engine warms up and the oil thins out, the risk of LSPI goes down considerably.
