This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Pauline van Dongen researches the body in a technologically textured space. Working closely with companies from the field of science and innovation, Pauline aims to merge fashion and technology giving life to scientific creations.

After graduating from ArtEZ, Academy of the Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands, she started her own womenswear label in 2010.

Pauline operates a meticulous research of the behaviour of experimental and high-tech materials, combining new technologies with traditional techniques to constantly renovate craftsmanship. The abstract fluid volume and hyperbolic surfaces of her last collection, Oloid spring /summer 2014, formulate an aesthetic of technology, resembling a technologically textured surrounding.

The integration of different expertise has been fundamental for the realization of projects such as. Wearable Solar, an example of wearable technology that integrates solar cells into garments, and Mesopic, a light-emitting jacket created in collaboration with Philips.

In order to get a better insight into the wearable-technology sector, Pauline is now involved in a PhD program, Crafting Wearable 2013-2017, in collaboration with the TU/e University in Eindhoven.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
