When I was young, we would eat jjajangmyeon on special occasions like birthdays and graduation day. It was indeed a very special treat to eat this sweet and salty black bean noodles. Even today, it still brings back special memories of my childhood.

Today, we usually eat them on moving days as it is easy to order home delivery. There is also a funny tradition of eating jjajangmyeon on the Black Day for those people who did not receive chocolates on the Valentine's or the White Day.

Women usually give chocolates on the Valentine's day in Korea. Then on the White Day, the March 14th, men will reciprocate. If you don't receive chocolates, then you get together with friends and eat jjajangmyeon on the Black Day, the April 14th. Although it is a silly tradition, it is fun to prepare black noodles anyway and enjoy them with friends.

Today I am making them with instant ramen noodles. Just add vegetables and you have a bowl of delicious noodles in 5 minutes. In making them, be sure to add lots of onions. You can upgrade by adding shrimp or pork as well.
