So - this is the first song on the 'Embers Mixtape'. This was the first song I released a few years ago and is what really got the Blakey project off the ground. Noisey picked it up which initially surprised me as I never thought I'd be cool enough for Vice mag. The amazing Jones jumped on and sang the second verse which really elevated the song with her angelic voice and her singing the lyrics actually made the whole song a lot more poignant.

The song really, in hind sight, was about depression desperation and reaching out for hope of some kind. It's actually quite self indulgent and self centered and on reflection isn't about anyone else but myself. But the idea of trying to improve yourself through the lens of how someone else cared for you I think is a positive message. I look back at it and sometimes feel a bit embarrassed about it, but other times think it's a really really beautiful thing. I guess thats art.

I bookended the Mixtape with a reprise of this song which perhaps shows the journey of the song - and the Mixtape - and maybe how the song has ended up is a more positive uplifting and fully realised take on this original message.
