Residents of Wheeling are still feeling the wrath of the river flood, but it won't be long until it's all cleaned up.

Wheeling Island, South Wheeling, and Fulton were hit the hardest from, leaving muddied areas and debris.

But city crews have been diligent in cleaning up those neighborhoods.

"Any time there is a flood of that nature, it is very difficult on residences and businesses in the flood area, but we really appreciate the help they have given our crews," Wheeling City Manager Bob Herron said.

City operations, water, and sanitation departments have all pitched in to clean up the neighborhoods as fast as they could during the last several days.

"There were some areas that were a little harder hit than that we anticipated, particularly from a mud perspective," Herron said.

North Wabash Street was one -- and the south end of the island was another.

Crews will continue cleaning neighborhoods until 5 p.m. on Thursday before the focus switches to city property.
