Ankur is singing acoustic, Hindi/ Urdu rock n' roll ballads when he is not busy screenwriting for 'Bollywood'. But much before he paved his way into the world of entertainment, he experienced a humble upbringing in a small town in the north of India -- Roorkee. Roorkee, famous for its Engineering College, was the perfect cultural hub he could have found. It was during his college years in Bhopal that Ankur began writing the relaxed, acoustic-based songs that would later find their place in his debut Album -- 'Jannat'. Right after college he took a sharp turn to the road of storytelling - songwriting being a major feature in that. He spent the formative years in Delhi working under the likes of Col Kapoor, Bobby Bedi and Shekhar Kapoor. He also paired up with his friend Siddharth Anand Kumar to direct and write his first feature -- 'Let's Enjoy'. His song from the movie -- 'Sabse Peeche Hum Khade', became an underground hit across the sub continent. He struggled hard to find a label in the 'dark and convenient era of remixes.' He wanted a pure live acoustic sound for his album and it was tough convincing the suits. It was only when the ANR at HOM records heard him strumming his minimalist melodies that Ankur eventually found what he had been looking for. They backed him in his vision and he ended up recording his album with music producers Tino Francorsi in Mumbai and Xulfi in Lahore. The recording of the album led to film OST projects -- 'Raat Gayi Baat Gayi' & 'Aao Wish Karien'. He was nominated in the 'Best Upcoming Music Director' category at the Mirchi Music Awards 2010. At the live circuit he plays with his four-piece band -- 'Ankur & the Ghalat Family'. The sound of his band ranges from Urdu/ Hindi Rock n' Roll to easy acoustic ballads & folk rock.
