Edit: I love this car despite my flippant attitude in this video! Here's a video about my car:    • Five Years with My Porsche 911 SC: Wh...

You ever wonder what the controls and switches are like in an old 911? You probably didn’t, because you probably figured they were just like in any other car. Well, they aren’t. They’re weird as hell.

I’m going to give you a brief tour and show you why the buttons and switches in an aircooled 911 are completely insane. I will cover everything from that green button that has no function to…. the slider things. This isn't meant as a how-to video, this is more of a… ‘what were they thinking?!’ video.

Maybe this helps someone, but I just wanted to shed some light on the eccentricities you don’t typically hear about with an old Porsche 911.

The Porsche 911, as you probably know, was made continuously for 35 years using essentially the same bodyshell and cabin. Over time they added comforts and conveniences that no one could have dreamed of in 1963. And they were still adding those to essentially the same dashboard layout, so they just had to find space to put buttons and switches, and add them where they could. Also, for a lot of this time, Porsche had no money.

So by 1980 when this car was made, they had to just put things in wherever.
