The 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is interesting, but it's not for everyone. The RAV4 hybrid is one of the best all around small to midsize crossovers you can buy. It has exceptional fuel economy, good interior space, lots of available options and trims, and is generally easy to live with. (In case you're wondering if we put our money where our mouths are, we own a Toyota RAV4 LE base trim that's Ella's car, bought specifically for many of the aforementioned attributes.) The RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is something else, though. The Woodland Edition takes the RAV4 Hybrid and makes it off-road worthy, with specifically tuned shocks and an off-road mode lifted from the previous RAV4 TRD. On the way to Destination Outdoor this year, we had the chance to take the 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition around an off-road park, one that Tundra TRD Pro models and Sequoia TRD Pro models were running around. In fact, of all the vehicles there, the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition was the smallest and least set up for off-road duty, but... it was a champ out on the course. Thanks to its small size, the Toyota RAV4 Woodland Edition was far easier to take around the course the first time I drove it than the Tundra TRD Off-road I started in. The course was narrow and winding in some areas, and the Toyota Tundra TRD Off-road was nearly too big to make some of the turns without bumping a tree... which someone eventually did. Whoops. But the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition never came close, and on top of all that, it stayed in EV mode for much of the course. (Remember, the RAV4 Hybrid is only capable of being in EV mode at very low speeds; it's not a PHEV like the RAV4 Prime. That being said, in low gear, slow crawling, off-road fun, the RAV4 Hybrid Woodlane Edition was in EV mode more than it wasn't, which is cool.) Is the Woodland Edition for everyone? No, there are some silly compromises, such as limited available options (why, Toyota?) and the fact that it doesn't get as good of gas mileage thanks to the off-road suspension and tires. But if you're interested in some light trail running and don't want to waste a bunch of fuel on the way there (or while you're doing it), the 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition might be for you. What do you think?!
