If you or a loved one has a hip fracture it can be scary. Here I will try to explain what a hip fracture is and what are the complications and expectation of that injury.

300,000 hip fractures occur in the US each year and it is predicted that by 2050 there will be 6.2 millions hip fracture each year worldwide.

Hip fracture can be deadly. 4%- 5% of patients admitted to the hospital will die in the hospital and 24%-25% will die in the first year following a hip fracture.

Be proactive and discuss your bone health with your health care team. Find out what your vitamin D levels are and ask if you need to have a DEXA scan (bone density test) to determine if you have normal, osteopenic, or osteoporotic bone.
