When Tesla CEO Elon Musk established Tesla, he said he was on a mission to speed up the process of sustainable transportation and make electric cars available for people as quickly as possible. It was this mission that became the driving force behind Tesla, and the company soon became a major force in the automobile industry without spending a dime on advertising. Tesla’s mission became the company’s most successful business model. However, Tesla isn’t the only player in the electric car industry any more, and competition is growing in the field. So why don’t we see any commercials for Tesla? That’s what we’re going to cover today.

Companies are spending millions in advertising but not Tesla
Where advertising is concerned, you have to admit most companies need marketing. Digital platforms are currently flourishing, but more traditional television and print advertising are still popular. The large automakers push out advertisements every day trying to influence and persuade people to buy their cars. It’s crazy the amount of money these companies spend to get their products in front of your eyes. However, you won’t see a Tesla Cybertruck interrupting your TV series or hear about one on the radio either.

Here's what Elon Musk had to say
In 2017, Musk said the company would not be promoting their Model 3. He was so confident in the sales, he even said, “If you go to our stores, we don't even want to talk about it, really, because we want to talk about the thing that we can supply. If somebody orders a Model 3 now, it's probably late next-year before they get it.” Now, does that sound like a CEO who thinks he needs to advertise his company? The Tesla Model 3 has turned out to be the company’s best selling vehicle to date, and the days of waiting for the car are over. Tesla has built factories across the world so that the car can be made and delivered in less than two weeks.

Tesla prefers spending money on R&D
Musk has explained why he doesn’t like advertising his products in the past. The man knows how a single tweet can make a huge impact, like the recent Bitcoin fiasco. Musk explained the money spent on advertising would be better spent on research and development instead. According to Musk, building a good car by focusing on the design and engineering is the most important thing. The vehicle’s performance will ultimately speak for itself.
