Tesla unexpectedly released all the details on the much anticipated Refresh Model 3, commonly referred to as Project Highland. The Refresh Model 3 is apparently not only in production, but will be delivering to customers in North America in the coming days!

The 2024 Tesla Model 3 comes with an assortment of updates. These updates are a combination of cost reductions and overall enhancements. Some new features are also prominently displayed on this refresh Model 3 as well, including both exterior and interior components.

Tesla has apparently redesigned roughly 50% of the parts on the Refresh Model 3. On the front of the Model 3 we can see a newly designed front bumper, which has been optimized for aerodynamics, including the removal of the fog lights. The new Model 3 also comes with 2 new wheel options, much like the previous, these are 18" and 19" options. The 19" sport wheels now come with additional covers for added efficiency. In addition, newly designed tires have been added for sound improvement, efficiency and softer ride.

2 new colors are prominently displayed on the order page which includes the familiar Ultra Red that was first applied to the Model S and Model X in March of 2023. The second color, Stealth Gray, at first appears similar to Midnight Silver Metallic, however, it is actually a darker shade of gray and a nice new compliment to the updated Model 3.

Both headlights and the taillights have been updated to compliment the updated design and the rear bumper has a new defuser at the bottom with integrated lights. The trunk now features 1 piece taillights that move in 1 piece with the trunk lid and the lid itself is lifted and closed by 2 power struts, one on each side.

Interestingly, Tesla has opted to retain the previous motors and batteries. These batteries and motor combination has been used for a while now, with the battery more recently being changed over to LFP in N.A. Overall, the updated aerodynamics and other improvements lend the vehicle to an 8% increase in efficiency. The drag coefficient has been reduced from 0.225 to 0.219.

On the inside, the refresh Model 3 shows off its new customizable dash board with ambient LED lights throughout the cabin. The steering wheel has been updated to mimic the refresh Model S and Model X, with no stalks for autopilot or turn signals. Interestingly the horn has been returned to the air bag location and the steering wheel has a new button that sports the image of a camera.

Overall noise improvements include expanding the laminated glass all the way to the back aiding in the overall 30% reduction ambient and wind noise, 25% impact noise and 20% road noise. This coupled with the updated suspension makes for the most comfortable Model 3 yet.

The screen appears to be nearly the same, but is powered by a faster processor. The HVAC has been optimized with Airway 2.0 and both Bluetooth and Wifi have been improved. Cooled front seats are sure to be the most popular upgrade cited by new Model 3 owners, and will only slightly beat out the excitement of the new rear entertainment screen. The rear screen, like in the Model S and Model X, will allow rear occupants to control the radio, HVAC and stream movies.

The audio in the refresh Model 3 has somehow been enhanced to be even more impressive. The new system includes 17 speakers, up from 14. USB-C in the front supports 65 watts charging and range appears to have been increased by about 13%.
