Blood cancer is a general term that covers a variety of diseases, including leukaemia and lymphoma. These are cancers that are caused by uncontrolled growth of particular types of cells in our blood.

In this animation for Barts Cancer Institute's Centre for Haemato-Oncology, we go into a bit more detail about how our blood is made, how mistakes in the genomes of blood stem cells can lead to blood cancer. We'll also discuss some of the treatment options that are currently being used, as well as some of the new techniques currently being developed in the lab.
