The much-anticipated GV60, Genesis’s first-ever dedicated electric car is finally available in the US and is also soon to be launched in Europe.
Some purists may criticize the GV60 for being Genesis’s first badge-engineered car, as there is no denying that the crossover that has its eyes set on the other premium electric SUVs like the Audi E-Tron and Tesla Model Y, is derived from the E-GMP based IONIQ 5 and EV6. The criticism is understandable as Genesis has always been religious about keeping Genesis completely independent from the mass market siblings Hyundai and Kia, by offering bespoke platforms, and a unique drivetrain. However, as the Hyundai Motor Group is about to embark on the all-electric era, the corporate product strategy focuses on the modularity of all of its electric car components, and through all of its brands and divisions, being completely independent may be no longer possible.
However, Hyundai’s luxury division is putting forth an initiative to implement features and technology that are unique to Genesis to set itself apart from its sister brands and distinguish itself amidst other luxury brands’ offerings.
In this episode, we will find out what efforts Genesis has put into the GV60 to truly make it distinctive and unique, as one of a few luxury electric crossovers, hoping to become another successful product for the Korean automaker.
