In her essay “Society After Pandemic,” Alondra Nelson, President of the Social Science Research Council, and newly appointed OSTP Deputy Director for Science and Society, wrote that “[i]n light of [pandemic-related] changes in society we must…change social research from being mimetic of society to being consciously dialogic with the world it seeks to apprehend and improve,” (Nelson 2020). Has the COVID-19 pandemic changed the ways in which social scientists engage with the world? Should it? This webinar brings together a group of scholars to discuss both how the social sciences have contributed to responses to the pandemic and how ideas and practices of research and engagement are potentially being challenged and reimagined.
