Santa Monica-based Red6 Aerospace (red6ar.com) is developing a groundbreaking augmented-reality training tool for military pilots. I received a demo aboard their Berkut 540 test aircraft--based on the Burt Rutan-designed Long-EZ--near Camarillo Airport in Southern California. A video focused on that technology is coming soon, but for now here are some highlights captured on the new GoPro Hero9 Black. Note the stabilization and horizon-leveling in action. I don't have the Max Lens Mod yet, but it's still really impressive. It will keep the horizon level up to 45 degrees of bank, then the horizon will follow the movement of the aircraft until it returns to 45 degrees. That can be a little awkward and jarring at times, so relying on the leveling does require some thought beforehand to account for this.
