Our bodies are electric. Within our bodies are electrical currents and electrical potentials that are generated by cells that make up our bodies. In fact, It’s the reason we’re alive - its involved in neuronal signalling in our brains, enables are heart muscles to contract and to transport glucose to name a few. Disturbance of the sodium potassium pump activity (that can create these electrical potentials) has been implicated in many pathophysiological conditions including cancer, diabetes, and heart failure. But these bioelectrical networks, if we can understand them better “suggest a roadmap for exploiting bioelectric signaling for interventions addressing developmental disorders, regenerative medicine, cancer reprogramming, and synthetic bioengineering.”
