Just had this problem with my Ford Focus, what a nightmare, it's a common problem with Ford Focus, you have to remove the instrument cluster strip down the panel, and then re-solder the the plug pins of which there are 30, took me about 3 and a half hours, but has saved me between £500 and £700 for a new instrument cluster.
