In this interview, Richard Good recalls his experiences serving in an Army explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit in the Vietnam War. He recalls his background and education and describes the training he received at the all-service EOD school in Indian Head, Maryland. He received orders to Vietnam in 1965 and describes the worst EOD accident in Army history that occurred nine months before his unit arrived. He recalls several incidents during his time in Vietnam including defusing a 1,000-pound bomb that landed near a Vietnamese hospital and getting his foot caught in a trip wire while trying to dispose of flame fougasse barrels at a Special Forces camp. He describes several of the procedures they used to defuse and destroy explosive devices and explains the history of EOD work and how the Vietnam War changed it. He recalls his return home and his post military careers and reflects on his military service and the Vietnam War.
