My miter saw dust port does very little to cut down on the volume of saw dust entering my shop space. So, I put together a new dust hood and DUST FUNNEL. Check out how I did it!

DUST FUNNEL HOW-TO:

1) I retrofitted my miter saw table by cutting a rectangular hole in it with a jigsaw.

2) Using scrap melamine shelves, I assembled a miter saw dust hood by attaching them with plywood scraps and wood glue. I also included triangular gussets in the corners for support.

3) I then assembled a melamine box in the same shape/size as my table cut-out. I cut and attached melamine ramps to the interior walls to create a funnel leading toward a dust port at the bottom.

4) I attached this dust funnel box to the underside of the table and framing members using 1-5/8" screws.

With this dust funnel hooked up to a shop vac, and the shop vac on, I've noticed a serious drop in airborne fine dust particles when I make cuts using my miter saw. When the cutting is done, I can also just sweep large grain dust into the dust funnel for clean-up!
