Join @midlifecrisismotorcyclist for a full ride and review of the new Triumph Daytona 660 to find out whether it’s a true successor to the much-loved 600, 650 and 675 or little more than ... a Trident 660 with a fairing. This review is from the international press launch for the new Daytona, held on the mountain roads outside Alicante.

With regard to the quickshifter mentioned in the onboard commentary the price quoted was correct at the time but Triumph has since clarified that for UK buyers it will be £316.12, plus another £50 or for fitting. Apologies for the confusion but this only came to light after we’d finished our ride.

You’ll also have heard me talk about some number crunching against the bike’s key rivals. As promised here are the key stats and UK market starting prices for comparison:

Triumph Daytona 660 - £8,595, 660cc triple, 95hp, 67Nm, 201kg
Suzuki GSX-8R – £8,899, 776cc parallel-twin, 83hp, 78Nm, 205kg
Honda CBR650R – £8,600, 649cc 4-cyl, 95hp, 63Nm, 208kg
Yamaha R7 – £8,910, 689cc parallel-twn, 73hp, 67Nm, 188kg
Kawasaki Ninja 650 - £7,359, 776cc parallel-twin, 68hp, 193kg
