Fortune Editor in Chief Alyson Shontell sits down with McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown to discuss how he was able to turn his Formula 1 racing team around this season and what he expects from his team looking ahead to 2024. Also joining the panel is Sanofi CEO Paul Hudson who shares his story on how he was able to strike up a partnership with McLaren Racing back in April 2022 and is now running Sanofi’s manufacturing lines using the same speed, precision, and efficiency of a Formula 1 team.

In this conversation, Zak Brown also discusses that when he took over McLaren Racing in 2016, he inherited a highly resistant workforce whose morale had hit rock bottom. On top of that, years of mismanagement under Brown’s various predecessors had taught them to view leadership changes with extreme skepticism. Brown knew such a demoralized group of people would not immediately believe in him or his strategy given their previous experiences. Instead, he needed to earn their buy-in before they would start collectively rowing in the same direction.

Paul Hudson also adds that Sanofi spends about 7 billion euros each year on research and development, which will increase next year to take advantage of "incredible pipeline."
