The Hartford Loop (or Underwriter's Loop) is a steam boiler safety device with no moving parts. When The Hartford Boiler Insurance Co mandated it in 1919, the rate of boiler explosions, which were occurring in the USA at an average rate of one every 36 hours, started to go down. This was noted by the authorities having jurisdiction and The Loop became the law from that day to this.
