After years or trying out various bags, organizers, and systems this is what we have found works best for our family of four to carry and manage all our ski gear easily and efficiently. The system works with both our Toyota Highlander XLE and Subaru Outback Wilderness. Please share what you do to stay organized as we are always looking for ways to evolve. Thanks!

- Our roof box is the Thule Force XT XL https://www.thule.com/en-us/cargo-car... We got it at REI during one of their 20% Off sale events which they do several times throughout the year. It easily mounts onto Thule AeroBlade Edge Roof Bars on this Subaru, or onto the Toyota Highlander standard roof cross bars we purchased with the vehicle.
- For the bins, we use the HDX 27 gallon storage bins. They come in multiple sizes and even a version made from clear plastic so you can more easily see where your gear is inside: https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-27-Ga... Note: Our kids are in middle school and so all 4 pairs of boots still fit but we will likely need to go up in bin size as they grow.

Things I forgot to mention:
- We also bring a couple plastic garbage bags in case we have some very wet gear. That way we can further segregate it from the dry gear in the bin.
- We use a soft cooler for our food, and it fits nicely between the bins or in front of them. We like the soft cooler as it takes up less space and is much lighter. I don’t really have a favorite cooler and its winter after all so it’s more of an insulated storage bag then a serious cooler to keep items cold.
- Roof box key. I’ve heard so many stories of folks losing or forgetting their key! We keep a separate roof box key in each car in a designated storage spot. That way we always have it no matter who drives.
- We considered a four-bin system where each person would have their own. We never tried it as the utility of having the one bin to contain all the wet/dirty boots works very well and so we have yet to deviate from that.
