While we tend to think of hell and its fire as a punishment from God, in reality it is a divine mercy from the Divine as the last and final means of purification for the soul so that it can return to the Presence of the Creator.

While each sin and transgression results in greater density that covers the light of faith existent deep within each human heart, deeds of love, kindness, excellence, beauty, repentance and piety help purify the heart from darkness.

Yet if we fail to turn back to our Lord in seeking His mercy, forgiveness and healing, it will ultimately be the fires of hell that make possible the purification and freedom of the human soul.
