Kaleidon - Free Love 1973 (Italy, Jazz/Fusion) Full Album

 Published On May 4, 2024

The only long-play of a group from Rome, the name of which seems to hint at the fact that the musicians adhered to the worldview common among hippies. But the matter is completely different. The band's leader, Stefano Sabatini, was previously part of an American-Italian team called "Free Love" (some of the musicians were from North America). In 1970, the guys released the EP Sandy / Temple Of Stone, which demonstrated their remarkable musical abilities, despite their young age. This was followed in the same year by another seven-inch LP, “Roy Colt/Dove,” which featured compositions for the feature film Western “Roy Colt & Winchester Jack” (a project led by Mario Bava with music by composer Piero Umiliani). The group played many concerts, went through several lineup changes, and eventually became the accompanists for Mia Martini's performances. But during one of the tours there was a car accident. Two musicians died. Stefano miraculously survived and, after a long treatment, created a new quartet, which in addition to him included Massimo Balla (saxophone, flute), Franco Tallarita (bass guitar) and Giovanni Liberti (drums). He named the album of his new team in honor of the previous team.
