Tensions remain high at Columbia University in New York City on Wednesday, April 24, over the right of pro-Palestinian protestors to hold demonstrations and encampments on campus. Columbia University's president had said she would give until midnight to reach an agreement on clearing an encampment but university officials later said it would continue discussions with protesters for another two days saying "important progress" was being made. Protestors agreed to dismantle a number of tents.
The tensions at Columbia are mirrored at higher education institutions throughout the nation following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israelis and the subsequent Israeli bombardment of Gaza. CGTN's Sally Patterson is outside Columbia University with the latest.
